What is IGNITE DAVIE?
IGNITE DAVIE is a placed-based last dollar scholarship program to attend Davidson-Davie Community College for students of Davie County. The scholarship will be for certificate, diploma, or associate’s degree programs and cover tuition, required fees and up to $250 per semester for books. Students must use the award within three years of high school graduation. The scholarship will begin with students graduating in the Class of 2020 from Davie County High School, Davie County Early College High School or a registered homeschool program.
Are there limits on the time from graduation to entering Davidson-Davie Community College?
Yes. Students must use their award within three years of high school graduation.
Are the scholarships need based or based on academic record?
No. The scholarship is not based on financial need or academic merit. The emphasis is on providing tuition assistance to students of Davie County allowing them the opportunity to earn a certificate, diploma, or associate’s degree free of cost related to tuition and required fees. The goal is to increase post-secondary attainment and completion rates, and strengthen our workforce ensuring alignment with business & industry needs.
What must a student do to be qualified for the scholarship?
Funding from federal and state grants, scholarships, and outside funding must be exhausted before IGNITE DAVIE begins paying. Eligible students are also expected to apply for any relevant Davie Community Foundation scholarships.
After all financial aid and other scholarships have been applied, IGNITE DAVIE will cover the eligible amounts of any remaining cost of in-state tuition and required fees. The scholarship also covers textbook costs up to $250 per semester, based on prorated scale.
Student must be a US Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident.
Each student must meet the admission requirements of any student at Davidson-Davie Community College.
What are required fees?
Fees that are required of all Davidson-Davie Community College students are covered by IGNITE DAVIE, such as student activities and parking.
What if you receive a diploma from a Davie County school but do not live in Davie County?
You are not eligible for IGNITE DAVIE.
How do you establish that a student is a resident of Davie County?
The location of the residence where the student is claimed for IRS purposes determines the permanent place of residence.

What are eligible institutions?
Davidson-Davie Community College in Davidson or Davie counties.
What degree programs are eligible?
All college certificate, diploma, and associate’s degree programs offered by Davidson-Davie Community College are eligible. Transfer programs are available through the associate degree programs.
Are summer school classes covered?
IGNITE DAVIE only covers the summer session for programs that require enrollment through summer terms.
What if I am required to take developmental/remedial programs?
Students who enroll in developmental/remedial programs will not be eligible for IGNITE DAVIE funding unless the student is enrolled concurrently in at least 12 credit hours of non-developmental courses.
Is study abroad covered?
Can the scholarship be transferred to a private college/university or out-of-state vocational training program?
Are there additional requirements that must be met following the initial award?
Yes. You must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA at Davidson-Davie Community College and successfully complete at least 2/3 of the credit hours attempted each semester for continued eligibility. You must remain a full time student.
* If a student begins classes at Davidson-Davie Community College and then drops out of school after tuition and fees are paid by IGNITE DAVIE, the student is no longer eligible for the IGNITE DAVIE program.
Are there other general requirements?
Yes. All students must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident. You are not eligible for IGNITE DAVIE funding if you have defaulted on any previous student federal loans or if you have been convicted of any felonies within the previous 12 months of graduation and up to entrance in Davidson-Davie Community College.
How long will my scholarship last?
Students must use IGNITE DAVIE within three years of high school graduation.
Are there any exceptions?
Maybe. Exceptions are handled on a case by case basis.
How is IGNITE DAVIE funded and how long will it last?
Donations from public and private investors are establishing an endowment to continue IGNITE DAVIE in perpetuity.
The IGNITE DAVIE fund is managed by the Davie Community Foundation. If in extraordinary circumstances the fund is depleted you will be notified prior to the start of the next semester.
